England set to appoint Flower as coach

England are all set to formally appoint former Zimbabwe captain Andy Flower as their head cricket coach this week.Flower, who is the currently the interim coach of the team after Peter Moores stepped down, has been interviewed by a panel chaired by Hugh Morris, the managing director of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). Flower is likely to get a £250,000 contract if he is appointed by Wednesday. The Sunday Times revealed that Flower is the only man known to have made Morris's "very short shortlist" that had some big names like Tom Moody, Gary Kirsten, Micky Arthur and Graham Ford. Ashley Giles was told he lacked experience. The team director's first task will be to help select a squad for the first Test against West Indies starting May 6. National selector Geoff Miller said that the team should be finalised at the earliest. The first Test squad underpins strategy for the Ashes so it needs more than cursory consideration."Hugh Morris knows that I want to pick the initial Test squad by next Saturday and knows that the team director has got to be involved in picking that squad," Miller was quoted as saying. "The sooner we get this deal in situ the better. Time is tight."
