England will be banking on the unconquered 56-run stand between Andrew Flintoff and Matt Prior to take them to a strong position on Thursday at Sabina Park.
Flintoff on the first day was unusually subdued in his unbeaten 43.
On the first day, Kevin Pietersen's determined 97 took England to 236-5 after Andrew Strauss elected to bat.
The visitors who have not lost a Test series to the Caribbean side in the last 15 years, were 94-4 at one stage before Pietersen and Flintoff reconstructed the innings.
