Steve Elworthy, Tournament Director for the ICC World Twenty20 2009 has today announced that a ‘Ticket Resale Window’ will open on Wednesday 17 December for cricket fans who have purchased tickets for the tournament in England, but are now unable to use them.
Steve Elworthy said, “There was unprecedented demand for tickets when they were launched in June and the available allocation of tickets sold out within hours. The ICC World Twenty20 England 2009 Ticket Resale Window will allow more cricket fans to attend matches by permitting them to purchase seats from existing ticket holders who are unable to attend.
“The ICC World Twenty20 is a celebration of cricket where the oldest national rivalries are ignited in cricket’s newest format. The tournament in England next summer will ensure partisan, passionate crowds. They can watch the world’s leading players turn out for their countries and it is essential that true cricket fans are given the best chance to be part of it.”
The Ticket Resale Window serves as the only authorised ticket resale facility and is part of a range of measures being taken to prevent ticket touts from exploiting fans. It will provide a secure and approved service for fans to resell their tickets. By placing or selling any tickets through unofficial facilities the ticket-holder is in breach of the ticket terms and conditions and risks the cancellation of all purchased tickets.
The Ticket Resale Window will be open from Wednesday 17 December 2008 to Friday 10 April 2009. Fans can register a ticket/s for resale by phoning the official Ticket Resale Window phone-line on 0844 847 2020, Option 4 (open 09:00 to 17:00 Monday to Friday – UK ticket–holders only) or by completing the Ticket Resale Window Registration Form available on request by emailing iccwt20resalewindow@ticketmaster.co.uk
There are no tickets currently available for purchase for the tournament following the initial ticket launch on June 30 which saw a high percentage of tickets sold within 48 hours. Some tickets were also retained for the European qualifying countries.
The ICC World Twenty20 anticipate that additional tickets will be released back for general sale closer to the tournament with further releases of tickets currently scheduled for January and March 2009. Tickets listed on the Ticket Resale Window will be released for sale to the general public if and when the relevant category of tickets for that match-day has been sold out.
Tournament Director Steve Elworthy said “It is essential that real cricket fans are able to attend ICC World Twenty20 matches and the Ticket Resale Window offers the only authorised method for re-selling tickets.
“We understand that some fans who have already bought tickets might not be able to attend their chosen match-days and we urge them to let other genuine cricket fans take their place. We hope this service facilitates this process.”
