Day two of the first Test between New Zealand and West Indies at the University Oval in Dunedin was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to persistent rain.
Overnight storms drenched the ground to delay the scheduled start, causing the umpires to call an early lunch with a view to inspect the field at 2pm local time.
However before the groundstaff could clear the water from the field the rain came down once again, and it soon became apparent that no play would be possible.
New Zealand will hope to resume their innings on day three, which will begin half an hour early, with their score still on 223 for four.
